Awareness
We want to create a place where lived solidarity and a good time for everyone come first. Therefore we do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment, be it racism, sexism, antisemitism, ableism or other forms of discrimination. Our goal is to create a space where everyone can feel accepted and respected. Should incidents occur, we stand by those affected and do our utmost to ensure that no further incidents of this kind happen in the future.
Code of Conduct
WORK IN PROGRESS
- We want to collaboratively create a space that is as free from discrimination and judgment as possible, where everyone feels welcome and respected – everyone participating is responsible for this.
- We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, sexism, or racism and reserve the right to exclude individuals if necessary.
- Look out for each other: If you feel threatened, harassed, or uncomfortable, please notify a team member. Even if you see that another person needs help: ask the affected person directly, don’t leave it to “others” to take action. You do not have to explain or justify your experience or observation.
- Only yes means yes: Act according to the Consent principle: Actions and conversations only take place with mutual agreement. Pay attention to whether the other person clearly signals their willingness to speak or interact with you.
- Please ask each person which pronoun (he, she, they, none at all, …) they wish to be addressed by. Using incorrect pronouns can be hurtful and even traumatizing and should therefore be avoided as much as possible. There are also people who do not use pronouns; a sensitive, respectful approach with each other is important to us.
- Please do not infer a person’s gender identity from their outward appearance. Just because you perceive someone as male or female does not mean that person identifies that way.
- We use gender-sensitive language and exclude generic masculine forms. We try to avoid gendered language like “Ladies first”, “Girl Boss”, “real men”.
- Before taking a photo/video of participants (and possibly posting it), please ask for permission. Not everyone wants to be depicted on the internet, and what is uploaded once remains discoverable forever.
- Our vision is shaped by Intersectionality and recognizes that there are individuals affected by multiple forms of discrimination.
- If certain topics evoke uncomfortable feelings for individuals, we stand by that person together and remember that every person brings different experiences and therefore reacts differently to sensitive topics or micro-aggressions, for example.
- We recognize that we are all different and have individual perspectives. We try to understand the viewpoints of others and refrain from generalizations and stereotypes (“typical man, typical woman”).
- We all make mistakes. If individuals use discriminatory language or ways of thinking, we try to make them aware of it through constructive criticism. We ask you to be open and listen when people offer you constructive criticism.
- BIPoC and other marginalized groups are not responsible for educating other people. However, there are good organizations that you can contact who can provide you with information material, book tips, and link recommendations.
- Please remember that not every disadvantage is always visible. Consider: What is normal for you is not necessarily normal for everyone.
- We uphold a zero-tolerance policy regarding discrimination – if an incident is reported, the perpetrator will receive a verbal warning and the reasons will be explained. Depending on the nature of the incident or in case of repeated incidents, the person will be removed from the event and a (permanent) ban from the premises will be issued.
- We do not tolerate individuals with a known and proven history of sexual or discriminatory violence.
We continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our policy and try to rectify weaknesses. Should you have suggestions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Don’t forget: BE KIND TO EACH OTHER!
